Am I a Candidate for Upper Facial Enhancement Using BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® Injections
A pretty or handsome upper face has as much to do with the eyebrow-eyelid relationship to surrounding facial structures as it does with the eyebrow or the eyelids themselves.
You may be a candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® injections:
- If you have expression furrows along your brow
- If you have wrinkles around the corners of your eyes
- If your brow position is somewhat irregular
- If you have early signs of aging
- If you are not a suitable candidate for more extensive facial aesthetic surgery
These injections are highly effective in softening lines and balancing eyebrow orientation.
Pregnant and nursing women should postpone BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. (It is not known whether BOTOX® Cosmetic has any effect on a fetus or whether trace BOTOX® Cosmetic is found in breast milk.)
Certain medications, including some antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, aspirin, vitamins, and some herbs, may increase the potency of BOTOX® Cosmetic and may increase bleeding and bruising at the time of injections.

How Is Upper Facial Enhancement With Neuromodulators Performed?
Botulinum toxin injections, referred to by names like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and XEOMIN®, are biological toxins that have been transformed into therapeutic agents known as neuromodulators.
Clinicians began working with BOTOX® in the late 1960s to treat certain neurological disorders. Today, BOTOX® is used for a variety of cosmetic and neurological conditions.
BOTOX® Cosmetic treats frown lines, forehead furrows, crow’s feet, lower facial wrinkles, “bunny-line” wrinkles, and neck wrinkles. The type of lines and wrinkles that respond to BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are caused by muscles — specifically, those muscles that contract during certain facial expressions, such as frowning, squinting, or raising one’s forehead in surprise.
During BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, patients are asked to contract muscles within a given treatment area. This aids Dr. Minoli or your injectable provider to identify the proper injection sites.
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections penetrate into a given muscle through a tiny needle. The effect of BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® is not immediate and usually takes several days to work. For patient comfort, topical ice is traditionally applied before BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to reduce needle discomfort.
Essentially, BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® treatments involve injecting safe, biocompatible chemicals derived from nature. The chosen material is injected through concealed entry points and can be done in an office setting, with your return to normal activities the following day.

Is There Downtime After Upper Facial Enhancement With Neuromodulators?
There is no downtime after BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. Patients can immediately resume normal activities.
Gently washing the face with cool water will help in the early stages after injections, and ice can help, though it is not mandatory. Bruising can occur (and even last a while) but is uncommon and eventually subsides.
When Will I See My BOTOX® Cosmetic Results, and How Long Will They Last?
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are a temporary solution for the treatment of wrinkles. Most patients see results that last between four and six months before repeated treatments are needed.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is reversible within several months.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Safe?
Millions of patients choose BOTOX® Cosmetic injections every year. BOTOX® Cosmetic is safe, and no system complications associated with BOTOX® have been documented.
Can these injectables be used in place of facial surgery?
Non-surgical neuromodulators like BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® may be able to replace the immediate need for more invasive surgical procedures, such as brow lift surgery, facelift surgery, or neck lift surgery. When started early, these injectables can even prevent or reduce the initial development of these expression-causing lines and wrinkles.
Not every patient looking to address facial aging is a candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic alone. A personal consultation with Dr. Minoli or a member of his team will be necessary to determine the right treatment for your needs and cosmetic goals.
Can BOTOX® Cosmetic be combined with other procedures?
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are commonly performed alongside surgical and non-surgical procedures to enhance results. These can be added to facelift surgery, brow lift surgery, or nose surgery (rhinoplasty). They can also be combined with non-surgical enhancements like injectable dermal fillers, collagen stimulants, fat dissolvers, chemical peels, or skin resurfacing treatments.
Are there risks with BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Possible side effects after BOTOX® Cosmetic include local numbness, swelling, bruising, or a burning sensation during injection. Additionally, some patients have reported temporary headaches and nausea. Most side effects are temporary and resolve within a few hours.
A small percentage of patients who receive BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are reported to experience no improvement at all.
Can BOTOX® be used for non-cosmetic purposes?
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are beneficial for a variety of conditions that go beyond cosmetic concerns. These include migraine relief and treatment for excessive sweating.
